Those of you who have visited our Ranger base at Ebworth may have wondered what used to stand on the large stone “plinth” opposite the offices. I have just come across some photos I hadn’t seen for some time that people might be interested to see.
The slides were taken when the BBC were filming a piece for Tomorrow’s World in the 1960’s. At that time the house was empty and being used by the local fire brigade for fire practice.
By the end of the decade it was in such an unsafe state that it was pulled down, more than ten years before the Estate was given to the Trust.
It may be that the Trust might have turned it down if the liability of the house still existed, or maybe we would have nice plush offices in it with views across the park…
